Agate is really such a generic term. Agate occurs in nature
in so many different colours and appearance. A lot of agate appears quite wax
like with bands of different hues of the same colour - blue, grey, brown, green,
pink and is slightly translucent.

Carnelian is a very popular stone for jewellery and
is normally Orange, Red to Reddish Brown. Carnelian is perhaps
my favourite stone to work with during the polishing process.

Cameo Pendants
Wire Sculpted Shell and Agate Cameo Pendants with Sterling Silver and 14/20 Gold Filled wire.
Cameo is a Shell or Gemstone carved in relief and references back to ancient
Greek and Roman times. Italy is the major center of cameo cutting
in modern times. I had the good fortune to see an artist cutting a Shell Cameo
in a workshop near Pompeii and it was absolutely fascinating. The minute work
that goes into each individually hand carved piece is fantastic.

Jasper Pendants

Jasper occurs in various colours - Red, Brown, Green, Blue,
Purple etc and often has very interesting patterns on it. My favourite are
the various types of Picture Jaspers and Porcelain Jasper. It occurs commonly
worldwide and is sourced from various places.

Lapis Lazuli Pendants

Lapis Lazuli is an absolutely beautiful but expensive Blue stone often flecked
with Golden yellow (pyrite) and comes mainly from Afghanistan. I have read
reference of Lapis Lazuli in jewellery making in Ancient Egypt.

be almost transparent. It comes from various sources in India, South Africa,
USA, and Brazil.

Tiger Eye Pendants

Tiger Eye is normally a brownish yellow colour banded stone
and is a type of Quartz. It is found mainly in South Africa but can also be
sourced from USA, Mexico, India and Australia. Red Tiger is formed through
gentle heat treatment of the brownish yellow stone.
